Our english group, consisting of me,Raymond and Ryan is doing this blog post on one of our idols,(not counting Mr Tan aka Bentwy),Stephen Chow a well known comedian from Hong Kong.
Stephen was born into a poor family with 3 sisters on 22nd of June,1966 in Hong Kong, but had spent most of his youth in Shanghai,China. It was there when he developed a special interest for Martial Arts, after watching tons of Bruce Lee(his idol) shows.IN fact,he was such a fan that he even took the time to learn Wing Chun, an art of martial arts made popular by Bruce.However, did you know that because his parents did not have enough money to send him to martial arts lessons,he actually learnt it all from watching Bruce Lee movies,which is quite a feat.
In 1982,when he graduated from high school, he went for an audition with an acting school by TVB ,but was rejected ( kan ni niang la!!) However,with the help of his close friend, Lee Chi Hung,he was allowed to take night classes and eventually graduated in 1983.
His first appearences in television were mainly in dramatic roles, which i cannot imagine him playing,in numerous television series.
His first comedic break as when he starred in the movie All for the Winner,which i have personally watched before,in 1990.

Since then, he has been starring in many comedies, with a lot of them being directed by himself.
His most famous co -star,Ng Man Tat
whom i find very cute,just like Mr Ben Tan aka bentwy, is one of my favourite actors too. However, our favourite of Stephen Chow's co stars has to be Lee Kin Yan
, who appears in some of Stephen Chow's movies as a nose picking cross dressing female, as Ru Hua, or Flowery Girl in english. His appearences are mostly brief and unexpected,but extremely funny still.The only movie i remember him playing as a normal man is in Million Dollar man, where he starrs as a nerdy high school student. this is a video of some of his cameos in Stephen's movies.


Now its time to discuss our favourite movies of him.There are a lot of great movies that Stephen has made,but our favourite would have to be the 1994 classic, Love on Delivary, starring Christy Chung and of course Stephen Chow. This movie is mainly a rags-to-riches story,as with alot of other Stephen Chow movies. This is because Stephen's life story is also something like a rags-to-riches-story,hence so many movies on this. It is about a weak man learning martial arts to beat a man who has stolen away his lover,but not by fair means. this is a clip from the start of the movie,a parody of Terminator.Stephen is naked in this scene because he has given his clothes and money to a beggar out of kindness.In turn he is arrested for being a flasher.Haha.

At the end of this post,we would like to tell all of u why we decided to do this blog post on Stephen Chow. To other people, he may be just a normal actor.To some other extremely funny and fit and cool and handsome and cute lady killers,he is JUST A RICH ACTOR. However,to us, he is an inspiration. Without him, the genre of "mo lei tau" or senseless humour,would never have appeared. His life story is the perfect example of rags-to-riches.He is one of the ones who brought asian films to Hollywood. He is one of the only people who i really laugh at,even though not as much as when Mr Tan says a joke. To put it simply, he is truly one of our great inspirations in life. We will end with this quote from him
"I used to cry when I watched Chaplin's films. It was from him that I learned about the role of the underdog. And because I'm also from a poor family, this kind of thing moved me and I found that it also worked for the audience because most of them are like me - ordinary guys." And also sorry Mr Tan for talking extremely loudly just now.Same to the class of 3G for disrupting the class and not being able to keep silent for one minute.We will try to change and turn over a new leaf.We promise never to talk loudly or anything in class again,unless Mr tan tells a joke and we can't stop ourselves from laughing(WHO CAN??!!!).Sorry.
